About this event

2/16 Meeting Notes:
Topic was Program Planning and Observer Corps.
Note to all: READ the VOTER to stay informed and frequently check the calendar at lwv jeffco.org
My notes from the meeting:
** We support changes to policy positions coming from interest groups or LAC as needed for action. We do not support new studies. We had a good discussion about JEDI as it pertains to Jeffco and the real danger of tokenism.
** We think the Housing position statements may need tweaking and we think that proposal will come from LWVCO.
**We had a long discussion about our support for interest group based program planning and how important it is to give interest groups time to form and get going. We see that some interest groups may rise to the top of importance based on current events or calls to action. We see this as the future of LWV in terms of relevance, exposure and action. We noted a sea change (to the positive) for getting board support for recommended action.
We noted real energy in the Voter Service group, especially with their work on strategies to meet specific demographic preferences and their focus on low voter turnout neighborhoods.
We see the Unit meetings as the correct structure for members to stay connected and informed about the work of the various interest groups. We also see the units as the vehicle for calls to action from the interest groups. We see the units as being able to specifically respond to local issues as they come up.
We also approve of the use of the unit meetings to have small group discussion and debriefing (like we plan for March) based on larger group presentations (like the Got Shelter 2/28, webinar, check calendar to register and Special District presentations 3/6 at JUC, check calendar to register.)
There was strong interest and support for Observer Corps. Training is on Zoom, 2/23 at 6:30pm It is on the LWVJeffco calendar if anyone is interested.
** Additional notes: the Jeffco Open Space Event was great (Terri). A very impressive presentation about the Jeffco LWV, including Bette, and their instrumental work in getting tax dollars dedicated to Open Space. Great presentation. Bravo to those members who worked so hard on this!
Next meeting is March 16th. Stay tuned for meeting and times and place.
At this month's Lakewood/Golden unit meeting we will will be discussing program planning for the coming year.
Join us for a Unit Meeting to discuss and share ideas & information!
